Guaranteed OSSEOINTEGRATION

Osseointegration success depends on many factors but some of them are more important: The main elements are a lack of bone overheating, an absence of implant micro movements within bone and a rapid spreading of the fi brin plexus on the roughened implant surface.

Euroteknika has a long standing involvement with research into the surface state of implants in collaboration with Prof Chappard of the Histology Laboratory of Angers University and with the International University of Catalonia in Spain and the Curkova University in Turkey. Since 1992 euroteknika has developed and certified its own surface treatment of implants. The surface treatment is a combination of sandblasting with ceramic balls and etching with nitric and hydrofluoric acids.

The sandblasting procedure operates to specific parameters including the selection of the correct size of grains, projection distance and power which have been identified to produce cavities within the titanium surface which have a diameter of around 25 microns. The biological relevance of this value has been identified in different studies including Steflik (1998) and Buser (1999).  These studies showed that the size of the cavities in the titanium surface allowed them to act as retentive pockets which could favour implant stability by filling with volumes of newly formed bone.

As a subtractive treatment sandblasting has the advantage of not adding a layer on to the implant surface which allows the titanium oxide layer to be fully active in the ossseointegration process. In addition to this sandblasting treatment the implants are etched with acids to create micro retention of a small size (from 2 -3 microns) which enhances bone cell attachment.  Research by Bruthreads (1986), Ong (1997) and Buser have shown that such micro retention contributes to cell differentiation. Tests on resistance to removal that have been done on implants with these two processes (sandblasting and acid etching) point to the improvement of performance from 75% - 125% compared to implants that are only acid etched.

Histological observations on our implants show a large percentage of a bone to implant contact between titanium and cortical bone as well as newly formed bone of normal texture.  In a comparative statistical study carried out by Prof  Chappard on Branemark implants, it was shown that euroteknica implants are as reliable as mainstream implant brands.  Histological analyses on both brands did not show any significant difference.
