Dear Colleague,
d2d Implants was launched earlier this year at the ADI in Birmingham. I am now delighted to tell you about our new implant, the Aesthetica+. Before that however, I need to tell you how I started working with our French partners, Euroteknika.
Many of you will have met me in other roles in dentistry, such as Denplan, Dencare, Oasis, JD Hull and at many postgrad meetings over the years with ADI, BSP & EAO. Like others I started out with Brånemark System® in the early 90’s but later changed to placing Astra Tech® & Straumann® implants when I noticed that Brånemark System® didn’t have the strength or the prosthetic fit of internal, conical seal implants. I was satisfied working with Astra® & Straumann® and in the last few years I lectured widely for Straumann® & the ITI. Therefore you may well wonder what am I doing selling yet another dental implant system!
I realised that although the design & manufacture of branded implants was second to none, implant design had been converging and compatible implants could now offer the same predictability, ease of use & success rates, but at a much more affordable cost. Our implants sell for £145 and if you wish to buy the abutments at the same time (including everything to restore the implant), the cost is £230. In addition these implants are not clones and they have unique design features like the roughened coronal micro-threads, the thread pattern & rounded apical profile.
Some of you may have come across Euroteknika, as they have been designing & manufacturing implants in France (near to Chamonix) since 1992. Their parent company GACD, founded & owned by a dentist, is the largest dental supply company in France, owning Dental Sky in the UK
Prosthetically the implants are Straumann® compatible: our 4.8mm Regular (neck or platform) and 6.5mm Wide (neck or platform) are fully compatible, both ways, between Aesthetica+ & Straumann®. In addition we have the 4.2mm Narrow platform implant which is unique to our range. This 4.2mm Narrow platform is available with a 4.1mm wide body; this is effectively the missing “4mm-straight” implant from the Straumann® tissue-level range. The Aesthetica+ is available in lengths from 6mm to 14mm.
The blasted & etched roughened surface is taken all the way to the top of the micro-threads which allows this trans-gingival implant to better maintain marginal bone levels. This is a unique & original variation of the Straumann® design. In several recent papers roughened micro-threads have been shown to reduce marginal bone loss (see references below).
The apical profile has been rounded to ensure an easy-start for insertion into the surgical site, while there is double asymmetric threading for faster insertion with less friction. These main threads are then synchronous with the micro-threads which have several start points around the circumference.
